From Concept to Closet: The Story Behind Kathleen's Wearable Art & Fashion

My Journey to Wearable Art
I had to stop working because of my chronic illnesses—Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Fibromyalgia (Fibro). It was a huge adjustment, and I had to learn how to slow down. I spent a lot of time watching YouTube, and that’s where I first came across acrylic pour painting. I kept seeing video after video, and it completely captured my interest. I knew I had to try it.
Once I started feeling like I could do a little bit, I gave it a shot—and I loved it. Painting became something I looked forward to, and I even taught my elderly mother how to do acrylic pouring. She usually painted scenery, but honestly, I had no idea she even knew how to paint until just before she passed away. After she was gone, we found more of her paintings, and it made me want to share not just my art, but hers too.
I started looking for ways to share my work with others while hopefully making some income from it. That’s when I found a Canadian company that prints my art onto fabric and turns it into clothing. It felt like the perfect way to bring my paintings to life in a way that people could actually wear and enjoy.
Unfortunately, in the past six months, I had another relapse, so I haven’t been able to work much again. My illnesses seem to go into remission from time to time, and I try to take advantage of those moments when I can. Right now, I’m waiting for social assistance, but my dream is to be able to support myself and my son through my store.
Oh, and on top of everything, my husband of 29 years and I have been separated for four months now. It’s been a lot, but I’m pushing forward the best I can.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. I’d love for you to join me on this journey—take a look at my store, and maybe you’ll find a piece that speaks to you.
